The Sesson Outside
Finally, it's Spring! We had a few
choons outside before we got going in earnest.
Workshop with Guy Shalom
Guy told us a lot about rhythms and at one point had us all
playing a groove in D minor while he gave useful hints to each individual. Most
informatative.
Guy demonstrated how a rhythm player must be aware of the tune
by backing Ray.

Kompleat history of Klezmer with Sue
Cooper
Sue continued with her ongoing
history of klezmer: Part 2: From the first recordings (1908) to the mid-war period
- with lots of recorded examples.
You can read Sue's history
notes
here.
At last! Dinner for the Klez Krew!
Another
sociable dinner - this time it was meat stew or veg stew and mash with fruit salad
and lashings of espresso coffee for afters.
Workshop with Ray Cohen
Ray gave
an interesting workshop about how hand-crafting each individual note provides
tools to shape the flavour and intent of a tune.
The Session
We played
till very very late, but took no more photos.
This event was funded by the JMI.
